Grand Prairie ISD is an “open enrollment” District which means you do not have to live in Grand Prairie to choose GPISD for your child. GPISD offers numerous traditional schools, Schools of Choice and Programs of Choice at all levels.

 

·         How Will I Get More Information About the Schools of Choice and Programs of Choice?

o   The Grand Prairie ISD Experience is scheduled for Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Dubiski Career High School located at 2990 S. Highway 161, Grand Prairie, 75052 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. You may also visit the Grand Prairie ISD Choice website at www.gpisd.org/choice for more information.

 

·         May We Apply If We Live in Another School District?

o   Yes. Grand Prairie ISD is an “open enrollment” District, you do not have to live in Grand Prairie ISD to choose GPISD for your child.

 

·         How Do We Apply for a School of Choice, Program of Choice or Transfer Request?

o   Applications will be available online from January 13 through January 31, 2014. To apply online, visit the Grand Prairie ISD Choice website at www.gpisd.org/choice

 

·         Do I Need to Stand in Line to Submit My Child’s Application?

o   No. Grand Prairie ISD’s application process is 100% online. You will need access to the Internet to apply.

 

·         If I Do Not Have Access to the Internet, How Can I Complete the Online Application?

o   If you do not have access to the Internet you can visit the Grand Prairie ISD Education Center computer lab located at 2602 S. Belt Line Rd, Grand Prairie, TX 75052 to use a computer with Internet access.

o   Hours of Support:

·         What Documentation is Required for Me to Apply?

o   Students not currently enrolled in Grand Prairie ISD: To determine Academic Eligibility, all documents listed below are required for students not currently enrolled in Grand Prairie ISD. In the online application you will have the opportunity to upload the required documents prior to submitting the application. You may submit the online application without uploading the required documents, but must provide Grand Prairie ISD with the required documentation prior to January 31, 2014 to be considered Academically Eligible. Grand Prairie ISD’s Education Center located at 2602 S. Belt Line Rd., Grand Prairie, TX 75052, will be providing support to those needing assistance with uploading the required documents to their online application. All documentation must be uploaded individually.

o   Current Students enrolled in Grand Prairie ISD only need their Student ID to apply. The student’s Student ID can be found by logging into Skyward's Family Access (Parent Portal) then selecting Student Information link. The student's Student ID is the "Other ID" number in the General Information area. No documentation is required to apply.

 

·         What are GPISD’s Academic Eligibility Requirements?

o   All applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered Academically Eligible.

·         Pass with an average of 80 in All Core Classes (ELA, Math, Social Studies, Science)

·         90% Attendance rate for the current year

·         Passed all areas of the State Assessments (STAAR or EOC) in the last administration

·         Acceptable Discipline Record for the current year

 

·         What If I Do Not Have A Scanner or a Way To Upload The Required Documents To The Online Application?

o   For assistance with uploading the required documentation to the online application, you can visit the Grand Prairie ISD Education Center computer lab located at 2602 S. Belt Line Rd, Grand Prairie, TX 75052.

·         Whom do I Call With Questions About the Application Process?

o   Please call 972-237-5525. If we are unable to answer your call at that time, please leave a brief message with a call back number and we will return your call as soon as possible.

·         What If My Child Is Currently Attending A School of Choice or Program of Choice and Wishes To Stay and Continue at that School or Program for the 2014-2015 School Year; Do I need to Re-Apply?

o   No. Students currently attending a School of Choice or Program of Choice and wish to stay and continue at that school or program do not need to re-apply.

o   Note: The campus administrator may ask you to sign a “Schools and Programs of Choice Letter of Intent” to acknowledge your intent to return for the 2014-2015 school year.

 

·         What If My Child Is Currently Attending A Traditional Campus on a Transfer Request and Wishes To Stay and Continue at that Campus for the 2014-2015 School Year; Do I need to Apply Online?

o   No. Students currently attending a traditional campus on a Transfer request and wish to stay and continue at that campus do not need to apply online.

o   Note: The campus administrator will require you to sign a “Transfer Student Letter of Intent” to acknowledge your intent and request to return for the 2014-2015 school year.

 

·         Do I Need to Apply if I Want My Child to Attend the School in my GPISD Attendance Zone?

o   No. Students can attend the schools within their Primary Residence Attendance Zone in Grand Prairie ISD.

 

·         Can I Apply Online at this Time for My Child to Attend Kindergarten in GPISD?

o   Yes, but final approval and admission status will not be determined until after GPISD’s Kindergarten Enrollment which will take place in late April/early May 2014.

 

·         Do I Need to Apply Online at this Time for My Child to Attend Pre-Kindergarten in GPISD?

o   The only Pre-Kindergarten application that will be accepted at this time is for participation in our Pre-K Tuition-Based Program.

o   Participation in the federally funded Pre-Kindergarten program will be determined at Pre-Kindergarten Enrollment in August based on qualifying indicators.

 

·         Can I Apply for Each of the Five Available Online Applications?

o   Yes. Each student, depending on his or her next-year grade level, can submit a single application for each of the five available online applications.
