Julie Bologna Talks Weather at Houston

Channel 11 Meteorologist Julie Bologna visited Houston Elementary recently and talked to 1st and 2nd graders about weather, weather safety, and the TV business.

Fox 4 Weather Team Meteorologist Ron Jackson was a guest at Travis Elementary School recently.  He spent part of the afternoon talking to 2nd and 5th graders at the campus about our local weather.

Daniels Welcomes Visitor from Pentagon to Address Math and Science

PentagonIn August, Daniels Elementary Academy hosted a reception for Naval Lt. Matt Bowman.  Lt. Bowman works in Diversity Outreach at the Pentagon.  His job is to increase knowledge and interest in Math/Science.  He discussed his mission to interest young students to become leaders.

GPISD Board Member Bebe Bingham recently visited Maria Gilbert's AP Spanish class at Arnold MIddle School.  Ms. Bingham spoke to the students about her life experiences as well as her service to the community as a member of the Board of Trustess.

SGPHS Football Players Visit Merrill Gardens

 

 

 

 

Members of the South Grand Prairie High School Warrior football team made a holiday visit to Merrill Gardens Retirement Community where they gave each resident a signed football program as a holiday gift.

 

GPHS Orienteering Team Finds Its Way in Local Competition

rotcGrand Prairie High School Army JROTC Orienteering Team went to its first competition in late September. The North Texas Orienteering Association hosted the meet at Arbor Hills Nature Park in Plano. OT team captain C/1SG Rafael Arreguin medaled at the event.

 

GPHS Art Students Contribute to "Whirled" Peace Projectgphs

In September, GPHS art teacher Laura Trejo's students participated in the "Pinwheels for Peace" project.  "Pinwheels for Peace" is an art installation project started in 2005 by two Art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, who teach at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida, as a way for students to express their feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives. 

It's estimated that over 1.2 million pinwheels were spinning in more than 3,000 locations around the world on International Day of Peace, September 21, 2007.
