Bush first graders are busy every day with a variety of literacy skills. Each day is filled with many opportunities to read: the weekly focus poem, a shared book, guided reading in a small group setting and a sustained silent reading time. One of the goals of the first grade teachers is to have all of their students "fall in love with reading!"

The first graders are hard at work learning everything from reading, writing, math, science and social studies. Please take time to sit with your child to go over homework, graded work and what they learned each day in school.

Please remember that reading together is very important. Have your child read to you daily and make sure you read to them also. When you are reading, you are modeling for them what good readers sound like. If you need suggestions or ideas to work with your child, then just let us know.
