GPISD has two programs for students who are 18 years and older and who have completed all of their state high school credits. These programs, Vocational and Independent Living (VAIL I and VAIL II), focus on home and personal living and employability skills.
VAIL I offers a full-day program at the Transition Center at South Grand Prairie HS. The students work on step-by-step tasks to complete goals such as vocational skills, hygiene, functional academics, and cooking. The Transition Center has a computer lab, bedroom, and full kitchen and bathroom.
VAIL II offers a half-day program at the Transition Center at South Grand Prairie HS. The students work on skills to attain and maintain competitive employment. The students are typically placed at an intern site where they work to strengthen their vocational skills.
