Guidance and Counseling Services
Counseling services consists of 19 High School Counselors (including 2 Career and Technology Counselors for the high schools and 2 Counselors for the alternative schools), 14 Middle School Counselors, 26 Elementary School Counselors, 1 Play Therapist, and 1 Early Childhood Behavior Specialist.

The GPISD has adopted the Comprehensive Counseling and Guidance Program as recommended by the Texas Education Agency

The Grand Prairie Independent School District has adopted the Developmental Counseling and Guidance Program model as mandated by the Texas Education Code (33.005)
A school counselor shall work with the school faculty and staff, students, parents, and the community to plan, implement, and evaluate a developmental guidance and counseling progra. The counselor shall design the program to include:

A guidance curriculum to help students develop their full educational potential, including the student's interests and career objectives..

A responsive services component to intervene on behalf of any sutdent whose immediate personal concerns or problems put the student's continued educational, career, personal, or social develoment at risk.

An individual planning system to guide a student as the student plans, monitors, and manages the student's own educational, career, personal, and social development.

System support to support the efforts of teachers, staff, parents and other members of the commuity in promoting the educational, career, personal and social development of students.
